Described as a harpsichordist and fortepianist with "an iron fist in a velvet glove" (Diapason), Philippe Grisvard has established himself as one of today's leading experts on historical keyboards. Born in Nancy, he studied piano and oboe before developing a passion for early music. Introduced to the harpsichord by Anne-Catherine Bücher, Philippe went on to study at the Schola Cantorum Basilensis with Jesper B. Christensen (harpsichord and basso continuo). A "continuo player who is highly regarded in the early music world, and one of the few to combine with talent the ingredients of historically informed continuo with stimulating creativity" (Diapason), Philippe was subsequently invited to collaborate with various ensembles such as L'Achéron, La Fenice, Scherzi Musicali, Pygmalion, Irish Baroque Orchestra, Les Ombres... Invited by orchestras such as Le Concert d'Astrée, Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin and Freiburger Barockorchester, he regularly collaborates with conductors such as Emmanuelle Haïm, René Jacobs and Sir Simon Rattle, and takes part in opera productions at the Opéra de Paris, Staatsoper unter den Linden, Gran Teatre del Liceu and Opéras de Dijon and Lille, among others. Philippe is principal harpsichordist of the Ensemble Diderot, where he repeatedly demonstrates his creative continuo skills that "amplify and colour the ensemble" (Diapason), and with whom he performs in venues such as the Luxemburg Philharmonic, Brucknerhaus Linz, Cologne Philharmonic, Vienna Konzerthaus etc... He has taken part in over 60 recordings for labels such as Ricercar, Virgin, Harmonia Mundi, Eloquentia, Accent, Linn records and Audax. A "chameleon stylist" (Diapason), Philippe presents the fruits of his musicological research in his solo albums for Audax Records: works by G.F. Handel (ADX 13709); works by  C.F.C. Fasch (ADX 13725). Philippe's first personal project with vocal music was devoted to the chamber cantatas of Alessandro Scarlatti, with mezzo Lucile Richardot (ADX 11206).  An album devoted to the concertos for harpsichord in Berlin, with the Ensemble Diderot, will be released in May 2024 (ADX 11211).
